Our Team
At Medura Family Law, we believe the strongest representation comes from bringing together different perspectives, experiences, and areas of knowledge. Our attorneys practice exclusively in family law and approach each matter with a commitment to thoughtful problem-solving, collaboration, and compassionate advocacy. We work as a team so that our clients benefit from the collective experience of the firm while still receiving personal attention from the attorneys handling their cases.
Our all-female team brings decades of combined experience to divorce, child custody, parenting time, mediation, and other family law matters. We understand that every family is different, and we work closely with our clients to develop solutions that address both their legal needs and the realities of life after a family law matter is resolved.
Cassie Medura
Owner / Founder
Cassie Medura is the Managing Partner of Medura Family Law and has built a respected Utah family law practice grounded in experience, compassion, and a commitment to helping families find workable solutions. Her practice includes complex divorce and high-conflict custody matters, where she brings decades of courtroom experience and a deep understanding of the challenges families face during periods of significant transition.
Cassie attended the University of Utah on a presidential scholarship, graduating magna cum laude. She also attended law school at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law on scholarship, graduating at the top of her law school class with many awards and accolades, all while raising a toddler alone. While in law school, she served as editor of the Utah Law Review and obtained a clerkship with Judge Pamela Greenwood on the Utah Court of Appeals.
Cassie’s first job after her clerkship was at Salt Lake City’s oldest and most prestigious law firm at the time: VanCott, Bagley, Cornwall and McCarthy (now Fabian VanCott). During her tenure there, she gained extensive trial experience as a commercial litigator while managing and mentoring all paralegals at the firm. Cassie was voted in as a shareholder of the firm and was elected to the firm’s compensation committee.
Fifteen years ago, Cassie started her own family law practice with her partner (now deceased) and has gained extensive work experience in family law over that period. She is an active member and executive board member of the American Family of Conciliation Courts and received an invitation to join the national American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, where she has been a member for decades. Cassie was also invited to serve on the Utah Supreme Court’s Lawyer Wellness Committee and served as a member of the Utah Supreme Court Ethics and Discipline panel for four years.
A Utah native and long-time resident, Cassie has a personal connection to the community she serves. Having left home as a teen due to domestic violence and abuse, today Cassie focuses her practice on providing representation victims of abuse, both men and women, and advocating for the rights of children in complex cases involving domestic abuse. She has worked with national domestic abuse experts for over a decade and is a decades-long donor to the Legal Aid Society of Utah, a group whose mission includes providing pro bono services to victims of domestic abuse. Her own experiences have helped shape the way she approaches family law and give her a personal understanding of the uncertainty and difficult decisions that can accompany the end of a marriage or a dispute involving children.
Cassie believes that effective family law representation requires more than knowing the law. It requires understanding the people involved, identifying what truly matters to a family, and developing solutions that can continue to work long after a case is over. Her approach combines strong legal advocacy with compassion and careful attention to the emotional and practical realities of family transitions.
Cassie is committed to resolving family law matters in ways that give families greater control over their futures. She recognizes that a courtroom is not always the best setting for resolving the deeply personal issues involved in divorce and custody. Whenever possible, she works with clients and opposing parties to find constructive solutions that preserve privacy, reduce unnecessary conflict, and establish a foundation for healthier lives after separation.
Cassie also holds a longstanding commitment to helping children whose interests may be affected by high-conflict family disputes. For over a decade, Cassie has worked as a Private Guardian ad Litem representing children at low or no cost, and she continues to dedicate significant time to pro bono work representing children in challenging custody matters. This experience has reinforced her belief that family law decisions should remain focused on the well-being of children and the creation of stable, functional family relationships.
Similarly, Cassie provides low bono legal services at very reduced rates through her role as a member of the Utah State Bar Modest Means Committee. In addition to donating her time, Cassie is a donor to “and Justice for all,” a joint project of Utah Legal Services, the Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake, and the Disability Law Center which focuses on access to justice issues for all Utahns. She is also proud to support the Utah Pride Center in its mission to advocate for equality for LGBTQ+ individuals.
Today, Cassie is married with three kids, and her bustling household also includes three dogs, two cats and a horse (the sheer numbers indicate she just might prefer animals over humans). Cassie’s recognition as one of Utah’s “Legal Elite” in Utah Business Magazine for many years running reflects her professional standing within the Utah legal community. For Cassie, however, successful family law representation is ultimately measured not simply by a legal result, but by whether the resolution allows a family to move forward.

Casey P. Kener
Senior Associate Attorney
Casey P. Kener is a Senior Associate Attorney at Medura Family Law and practices exclusively in family law. She focuses her practice on divorce and custody matters, including high-conflict cases in which protecting children’s well-being is a central concern.
Casey’s commitment to family law began during her time at Michigan State University College of Law, where she earned her J.D. with honors. While in law school, she worked in the Chance at Childhood clinic, assisting families involved in custody disputes and advocating for children and families facing challenging circumstances. The experience gave her an early opportunity to see how legal decisions can affect children and reinforced her commitment to keeping children’s needs at the center of family law advocacy.
Casey also contributed to the development of child custody and parenting-time policies through her work with the Michigan Friend of the Court Bureau. That experience provided valuable insight into the practical and systemic issues that can arise when parents are trying to establish workable arrangements for their children.
Since joining the firm in 2021, Casey has continued to build a strong foundation in family law. At Medura Family Law, she brings that experience to clients facing complex divorce and custody matters, combining careful legal analysis with a compassionate understanding of the circumstances surrounding each family.
Casey is particularly committed to helping clients navigate high-conflict situations while keeping children’s interests and well-being in focus. She understands that parents can have profoundly different views about what is best for their children, particularly during and after a divorce. Her role is to help clients understand their legal options, evaluate those options realistically, and work toward outcomes that provide children with stability while protecting her clients’ rights and interests.
Casey’s approach fits naturally with the firm’s commitment to collaboration. She understands that family law matters rarely exist in isolation and that the most effective solutions often require looking at legal, financial, emotional, and parenting concerns together. She works closely with colleagues and other professionals when appropriate so that clients benefit from a broader range of knowledge and perspectives.
Originally from Georgia, Casey was a standout student-athlete who earned a full scholarship to play Division I soccer at Southeastern Louisiana University. As team captain, she led her team to two Southland Conference championships and earned academic All-American honors while graduating magna cum laude in 2017.
Her experience as a student-athlete shaped many of the qualities she brings to her legal practice, including discipline, preparation, teamwork, and a commitment to achieving results while working effectively with others.
Casey is a member of the Utah State Bar. Outside of her legal practice, she enjoys exercising, following true-crime stories, and spending time with her cat, Sushi.
